The Reflection I Needed
Share
Growing up, I didn’t see anyone who looked like me.
Not on TV. Not in fashion. Not even on the shelves of stores I loved. As a South Asian girl with vitiligo, the absence of representation wasn’t just noticeable—it was personal. And for a long time, it made me question if there was space for me in the world as I am.
This image—a woman with vitiligo, proudly wearing a Spotted Chai tote and meeting her younger self in the mirror—isn’t just a visual. It’s a reflection of what I needed then… and what I hope to give others now.
✨ A brand that centers vitiligo awareness.
✨ A space that honors Desi identity.
✨ A message that says: your skin, your story, your roots—they are powerful.
Creating Spotted Chai was never just about stickers or totes. It was about making representation tangible. About building something I wish had existed for me. And now, for every young person searching for someone who looks like them, I hope this brand feels like home.
Thank you for being here—for seeing me, and for letting me reflect that love right back to you.
With chai and love,
Reshma
